Watch: South African cricketers star in MLC

Captain Andries Gous' big hitting helped the Washington Freedom beat the Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket.

Several South Africans contributed towards the Washington Freedom’s six-wicket win against the Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket yesterday.

Marco Jansen took 2-29, including the big wicket of Proteas batsman Rilee Rossouw for 41, as LA posted a competitive 175-7.

Dane Piedt conceded just eight runs in two overs while Anrich Nortje went for 31 in his four without picking up a wicket.

But it wasn’t enough as Washington reached their target with 11 balls to spare, thanks to a blistering 40 off 15 balls by captain Andries Gous – who opened the batting with Australia’s Matthew Short (43 off 35) – and Obus Pienaar’s unbeaten 26 off 17.
