Watch: Traffic congestions at Limpopo toll gates

High traffic volumes are seen on the N1 North and motorists are urged to buckle up, stick to the speed limit and drive safely.

Busy conditions are expected on the N1 North to Limpopo today as many make their way to the province for the festive season.

High volumes of traffic have been reported at all four major toll gates on the route.

Bakwena Platinum operates the N1-N4 toll route between Tshwane and Bela-Bela and reports busy conditions along the route at present with over 1 700 vehicles passing through the Carousel toll plaza hourly.

Further up north, a 5km queue was captured on video by the Citizens Emergency group with traffic backed up at the Kranskop toll plaza too.

Bakwena says they expect high volumes of traffic until 15:00 and urges motorists to buckle up, stick to the speed limit and drive safely.

Meanwhile, Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC Florence Radzilani implores road users to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol, and to drive within the speed limit.

“I urge you to obey the rules of the road as you travel in the province. We have dispatched our law enforcement officers to all our major roads, and there will be no tolerance on traffic violations,” she says.

Radzilani adds that the department will maintain a constant presence on the roads, and have no mercy against anyone who might be found to be breaking traffic rules.

“They will meet the harsh might of the law,” she concludes.
