Watch: Yet another fire in the Johannesburg CBD

Johannesburg emergency services personnel have responded to another fire at a state-owned building, this time at SARS.

The SARS building on the corner of Frederick and Rissik streets in Marshalltown, Johannesburg, is the latest building in the CBD to catch fire.

The cause of the blaze, which started at 14:30 today, is not yet known, but it is thought to be related to the building’s generator.

The building was evacuated and the fire contained. No injuries have been reported.

This is the latest fire to have plagued the Johannesburg CBD. On August 31, a fire broke out in the early morning hours at the corner of Albert and Delvers streets. The fire claimed more than 70 lives.

On Saturday, a fire broke out at the Metro Centre in the CBD. The fire resulted in the evacuation of the building due to the unstable nature of the transformers.

Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda, the speaker of council and the city manager’s office have all been temporarily relocated out of the Metro Centre while the complete revamp of the building occurs.
