Western Cape cop arrested on kidnapping, sexual intimidation charges
A Thembalethu officer's case was not enrolled in court yesterday, but an internal investigation has been launched alongside a criminal probe.
A police officer (29) from Thembalethu, George, was arrested on Sunday on charges of kidnapping and sexual intimidation.
He was expected to make his first appearance in court yesterday, however, according to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies, the matter was not enrolled in court.
He referred George Herald to the NPA for clarity on the matter, and the newspaper will follow up for further information.
“The allegations against the police official are regarded as serious,” says Spies.
“Thembalethu police management already launched an internal investigation into the allegations in terms of the SAPS internal regulations. This investigation will run parallel with the criminal investigation,” adds Spies.
Alleged incident
According to unconfirmed information, the officer was on duty when the incident occurred. While patrolling with colleagues, they reportedly saw three women fighting. The officers allegedly loaded all three women into their vehicle to take them home.
After dropping off two, the officer reportedly told the third woman he would take her home himself and instructed her to get into his private vehicle. Instead, he allegedly drove her to his house, locked the door, and made inappropriate advances of a sexual nature.
Fortunately, a phone call interrupted him, allowing the woman an opportunity to escape.
