Western Province XV to face Western Force

The Australian Super Rugby team will visit SA to play against the likes of the Cheetahs, Emerging Ireland, and now the Western Province.

In October, Super Rugby’s the Force will take on a Western Province XV team, which is anticipated to include players from the broader DHL Stormers squad.

The Australian team will tour the Republic in September and October and tackle the Cheetahs and Emerging Ireland in the Toyota Challenge, before crossing swords with Province in a friendly in Stellenbosch as part of their spring tour.

According to a statement on the Force’s website, the WP XV will look to members of the Stormers ranks. The 2024/25 Vodacom URC is set to kick off on September 20, with the Capetonians to host the Vodacom Bulls in round one.

Force general manager of rugby Chris Goodman said the tour would provide invaluable opportunities for the playing squad and coaches.

“We’ve identified the need for more playing opportunities for our squad after the 14-game Super Rugby season, so we’re thrilled to lock in three games in South Africa against strong opposition,” Goodman said.

“We believe this spring tour will help develop team cohesion and connections within the playing squad. Players will also be exposed to different opposition and different conditions making it an invaluable experience.”
