Woman arrested for selling house that did not belong to her

The woman was arrested in Durban after she received more than R2m from an unsuspecting victim looking to buy a house.

A 54-year-old woman is facing charges of fraud after she allegedly sold a house that did not belong to her, enticing a man, who was in search of a property, into making a purchase.

She was arrested by the Hawks from the Durban Serious Commercial Crime Investigation following the crime, which occurred in Durban North.

The unsuspecting victim paid R2.2m for the property and when the complainant went past the property, he noticed that the house was being renovated.

Upon making inquiries, he was told that the house belongs to the National Department of Public Works. A case of fraud was then reported at the Durban North police station for intensive investigation.

More arrests are expected.
