Woman arrested in connection with police officer’s murder

A suspect is expected to appear in court over the fatal stabbing of an off-duty police officer in Pacaltsdorp.

The Pacaltsdorp Police have opened a murder case following the death of an off-duty police officer (44) stationed with them, reports George Herald.

A provincial police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Chris Spies, confirmed the murder, saying that the police had responded to a stabbing incident in Hedge Road, Pacaltsdorp, yesterday (October 25) at about 22:45.

“On arrival, the officers found the victim with stab wounds to his chest and body. The paramedics declared him dead on the scene. A woman was arrested in connection with the incident,” he said.

The police sergeant’s identity is known to George Herald, but is being withheld until his family, who are travelling from the Eastern Cape to George, have formally identified him.

The suspect (32) will appear in the George Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (October 27).

The case has been referred to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI).

The DPCI investigates cases involving the unnatural deaths of police officers.
