Woman drowns at KZN beach

The Amanzimtoti SAPS are investigating the death of a woman whose body washed up on the shore between Pipeline and Amanzimtoti Main Beach.

A body of a woman believed to be in her late thirties washed up to shore between Amanzimtoti Main Beach and Pipeline Beach at around 10:00 today.

According to Ward 97 councillor André Beetge a beachgoer noticed something in the surf between Pipeline and Amanzimtoti Main beaches. Upon closer inspection, an Indian female in her late thirties, and early forties, fully clothed, was found in the shoreline.

“A nearby accommodation establishment was informed, who subsequently alerted ET Security, who in turn alerted beach management and the lifeguards. The lifeguards reacted, but after 55 minutes, were unable to resuscitate the female. She was declared deceased at about 11:45,” said Beetge.

The Amanzimtoti Police were informed, and once on the scene, took statements from the beachgoer.

Beetge added, “At this stage, the identity of the female is still unknown. A set of shoes and a hat was also found on the beach, which suggest that the female entered the water voluntarily, for whichever purpose.”

Anybody with information are asked to contact Amanzimtoti SAPS on 031 913 1308.
