Woman robbed, sexually assaulted at Margate beach
Investigations are underway after a 16-year-old girl was allegedly robbed and sexually assaulted at Margate beach in KwaZulu-Natal earlier today.
Provincial police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the victim was sitting with her boyfriend at the beach when they were approached by three suspects armed with a knife.
“One suspect touched the girl`s private part before taking a wallet and cellphones. A case of robbery and sexual assault was opened at Margate police station for investigation,” added Zwane.
He said no arrests have been made. Investigation are ongoing.
In a separate incident, a woman was allegedly raped on Margate Beach back in April.
The woman from North West Province, who was attending Africa Bike Week in Margate, was reportedly sitting on the beach by herself when she was approached by a man.
“According to the woman, the man asked her for R10,” police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said.
“She told the man that she did not have money on her. He then asked her for her cellphone, to which the woman replied that she had left all her items at the holiday flat where she was staying,” he added.
The man then produced a firearm, forced the woman to undress and allegedly raped her. He then fled, taking only her biker jacket.
