The Mustang Dark Horse employs a ‘specially modified’ version of the Blue Oval brand’s familiar 5l, naturally aspirated V8, which, as mentioned, is endowed with 328kW and 540N.m of torque in the GT derivative. However, for the Dark Horse, Ford has uprated the Coyote motor to churn out 334kW, which is exclusively sent to the rear axle via a 10-speed automatic transmission. A Torsen rear differential is also present.

The Dark Horse’s 19-inch fore and aft alloy wheels are wrapped in mixed-size Pirelli P Zero rubber. Housed behind the wheels, a set of Brembo brakes bring the Dark Horse to a halt. In addition, the pinnacle Mustang features MagneRide shocks, which, Ford says, based on the driving mode and surface driven on, monitor wheel and tyre movement at up to 1 000 times per second to optimise performance.

Stepping inside, the Dark Horse is equipped with a 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which incorporates Ford’s SYNC4 software. A 12.4-inch digital driver’s display is sited fore the flat-bottomed, multifunction steering wheel. A 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, replete with subwoofer, is included in the package, among a raft of other items. No exact date has been provided for when the Dark Horse will be available in South Africa, but the Blue Oval has said that it is expected soon.
