Defender takes on the Dakar Rally

In 2026, a Defender works team will enter the world’s toughest rally-raid, putting the vehicle’s durability and capability to the ultimate test.

Jaguar Land Rover’s iconic Defender will be the official car partner of the Dakar Rally from 2025 and will compete in the event as a works team from 2026.

Starting next year, a fleet of Defenders will support the Dakar Rally, transporting officials and media personnel. A dedicated fleet of six Defenders will be used for route reconnaissance.

Mark Cameron, Defender’s managing director, expressed excitement about the partnership, highlighting the brand’s adventurous spirit and its perfect match for the Dakar Rally. James Barclay, JLR Motorsport’s managing director, emphasised the challenges and opportunities ahead for the Defender Dakar team. David Castera, director of the Dakar Rally, welcomed Defender as the official car partner, praising the brand’s iconic status and shared passion for adventure. He also expressed enthusiasm for Defender’s participation as a works team, which will further elevate the Dakar’s global profile.

The 2025 Dakar Rally takes place in Saudi Arabia from January 3 to 17, with the final three days traversing the challenging Empty Quarter.
