Volvo EX30 crowned Top EV of 2024 by TopGear South Africa

Volvo's latest electric offering, the EX30, takes home yet another prestigious award.

The Volvo EX30 continues its winning streak. It was named EV of the Year at the 2024 TopGear South Africa Awards.

The compact electric SUV impressed the judges with its exceptional value for money. “While EVs might not be mainstream in South Africa yet, the Volvo EX30 has certainly captured the attention of a wider audience,” said Lerato Matebese, publishing editor at TopGear SA magazine.

With strong sales figures and positive reviews, the EX30 has solidified its position as a leading electric vehicle in the South African market. “The EX30 strikes a perfect balance between affordability and premium features,” added Matebese.

The EX30’s impressive list of accolades includes:

• Auto Motor & Sport’s 2024 Car of the Year

• TopGear UK’s 2023 Eco Warrior of the Year

• Red Dot Award: Best of the Best Product Design 2024

“We’re incredibly proud to receive this award,” said Felipe Yagi, head of marketing and communications at Volvo Car South Africa. “The EX30’s advanced technology, impressive range, and competitive pricing have resonated with South African consumers.”

The local Volvo EX30 lineup offers three trim levels: Core, Plus, and Ultra. The Core model, starting at R791 900, is one of the most affordable premium electric SUVs in South Africa. The Ultra Twin Motor Performance variant delivers exhilarating performance, accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.6 seconds.

“This award reaffirms our commitment to sustainable mobility and pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle technology,” concluded Yagi.
