Lambo’s electric Lanzador promises potent SUV mixed coupe
Lamborghini‘s forthcoming electric vehicle is gearing up for a 2028 release and this 'ultra GT' is poised to redefine the automaker’s identity in the electric age.
All automakers seem to be on pandering to the electric revolution whether they like it or not. The Raging Bull recently electrified its line-up with the Urus, V12 Revuelto and forthcoming V8 Temerario. The foundation of this groundbreaking EV lies within a platform shared across the Volkswagen Group’s performance and luxury brands, a project spearheaded by Porsche. This collaborative approach, as Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume explained, will allow the Lamborghini EV to ‘benefit from synergies across brands’. Specifically, he revealed that the platform ‘will allow for up to 1 491.4kW and 980V. It’s a very specific set-up for Lamborghini’.

This high-voltage 980V system is a significant technological leap, enabling faster charging and enhanced performance. The 1 491kW output, translating to approximately 1 491.4kW, underscores Lamborghini’s commitment to maintaining its performance leadership. Assembly of the Lanzador will occur at Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters. While the locations for body and battery production remain undisclosed, Blume assured Autocar during an interview that the EV ‘will be a typical Lamborghini, something very emotional’. This statement reinforces the brand’s intention to translate its signature visceral driving experience into the electric realm.

When Lamborghini unveiled the concept in 2023, chairperson and CEO Stephan Winkelmann described it as an ‘innovative Gran Turismo 2+2 concept’. He further articulated: “With this concept, we are ushering in a new car segment, the Ultra GT, which is poised to offer customers a new and unparalleled driving experience, one that’s quintessentially Lamborghini, thanks to groundbreaking technologies.”

Maserati recently axed its all-electric MC20 alternative but it seems that their Italian sibling is continuing to forge forward with electrification with the Lanzador.
