Pricing and specification: Renault Trafic Passenger returns to SA
Back in this country for the first time in nearly two decades, Renault’s versatile MPV combines a punchy turbodiesel engine with a 6 000-litre maximum cargo hold.
Having reintroduced the Renault Trafic to the local market in 2022 exclusively in panel van guise, the French manufacturer has now expanded the range with the fourth-generation Trafic Passenger, marking the brand’s return to the family MPV sector for the first time since 2007.
Beneath the bonnet, the Trafic Passenger is driven by a 2.0l turbodiesel engine that delivers 125kW and 380N.m of torque. Peak power arrives at 3 500r/min, while maximum twist is available from a low 1 500r/min. This four-cylinder unit is paired with a nine-speed torque converter automatic transmission, with Renault claiming a combined fuel consumption figure of 7.2 l/100km.
Designed for maximum versatility, the Trafic Passenger provides accommodation for up to nine occupants. Both the second and third rows can be folded or stowed away to expand loading capacity as needed. With all three rows in place, the vehicle offers 1 890l of luggage space, which increases to 3 570l with the second row folded, and stretches to a cavernous 6 000l with both rear rows stowed away. While a single liftgate is fitted as standard, a split-door tailgate is available as an optional extra.

The Trafic Passenger line-up comprises three distinct variants: the entry-level Evolution, the mid-tier Evolution+ and the flagship Techno+. Pricing begins at R979 999, which includes a five-year/90 000km service plan alongside a five-year/150 000km warranty.

Standard equipment
Standard specification across the range includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system complete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, digital instrumentation, cruise control, a rear-view camera backed by parking distance sensors, automatic headlights, and six airbags.
