Bok bruiser out for season

Jasper Wiese, 28-cap world cup winner, has been ruled out for the rest of the season following neck surgery.

No 8 Jasper Wiese’s recovery from neck surgery could rule the Springbok star out for the start of the world champions’ 2025 Test calendar year.

According to news outlet RugbyJP.com, Wiese’s Japanese League One outfit Urayasu D-Rocks has announced that the 29-year-old will be out for the rest of the season

“I had to come back to South Africa to get an operation on my neck,” Wiese was quoted by RugbyJP.com. “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to play again this season.”

Known for his powerful ball-carrying and physical presence, Wiese started eight of his nine appearances and scored two tries in 2024-25 for the Urayasu D-Rocks, who have four matches remaining of the league campaign.

The 28-cap world cup winner, whose last Test was against Wales in November, is now at very least in doubt for South Africa’s season-opening matches against the Barbarians (June 28), Italy (July 5 and 12) and Georgia (July 19).
