The Motherland enchants crowd
The Motherland performed at Arcade Empire last week.
The new up-and-coming band, The Motherland, performed at Arcade Empire in Pretoria East last week, giving its audience good value for money.
Lead vocalist Sean Hayz said the band got together in March last year.
The other members are lead guitarist Amber Valentine, drummer Louis Malherbe and Geraint Boje on the bass guitar.
Valentine said: “The goal is to take our music international. We feel our music can change lives.”
Hayz said the band had shared the stage with well-known counterparts such as Parlotones and GWP Project.
Their first single, Forest, has featured on multiple radio stations. The band’s first album will be launched on 2 April at the Barnyard theatre in Rivonia, Johannesburg.
Valentine said none of the band members had other occupations, adding: “We are fully committed to create a future for us as a band.”
Malherbe said all the members felt proud to be part of the band and loved the unique music they offered.
“The music we play is not only aimed at a certain group of people. Everybody can relate and enjoy our music,” he said.
Hayz said the band performs had between 20 to 30 shows each month at venues that included Johannesburg and Pretoria.
“We have also toured to Cape Town twice.”
Boje had some advice for young bands: “You are only as good as your last performance, so you should always play as if it is your last.”
