How to get rid of dark circles under your eyes

If you suffer from dark circles under your eyes, consider these tips.

Why do some people get dark circles under their eyes and others not?

Well, according to Jolene Edgar of the Real Simple lifestyle website, it can be mainly due to genetics, age or seasonal allergies.

In case of genetics, if you inherit fair or thin skin under the eyes, it is more obvious when blood pools there, often because of slower circulation from lack of sleep.

Age is another factor. Over time, skin loses collagen and thins, so veins show through more prominently.

Seasonal allergies are to blame for many people. “They trigger the release of histamines in the body, which in turn inflamed blood vessels and cause swelling,” says Ranella Hirsch, a dermatologist.

But, if you are one of the unlucky, tired-looking individuals out there, consider these remedies when trying to get rid of the dark circles around your eyes, to look wide awake and fresh.

– Double up on pillows at night to stop blood from building up under your eyes. In the morning, apply a cold compress for about five minutes to constrict the blood vessels.

– If you are very susceptible to allergies when seasons change, consider taking an over-the-counter antihistamine.

– If thin skin is the issue, use a collagen-building cream. Ask your nearest dermatologist or pharmacist which products to consider.

– Stock up on those oranges or chewable vitamin Cs, they are great for brightening skin tone.
