Top Model South Africa was started in 2014 by entrepreneur and philanthropist, Suzette Marais. Marais is well known in the modelling industry for developing new talent and getting them signed with well-known international agencies.

Marais said the event was divided in six categories namely:

-TMSA Runway
-TMSA Body of the year
-TMSA Runway over 25s
-TMSA Men’s Open
-TMSA Beautiful Fresh Face
-TMSA Diversity

Managing director for Top Model South Africa Johan Ungerer said the brand is all about upliftment, giving back, supporting the youth and creating opportunities.
CANSA South Africa was the organisation that played a role in the success of the event. Ungerer said: “A certain amount will be going back to the CANSA foundation and creating opportunities within the brand.”

The impact that this event had on the city of Pretoria is that it does create job opportunities.

“Other brands do the same thing but with us, it’s all about the finalists and seeing them giving back”.

Ungerer said: “Seeing and bringing change is an aim that we have when it comes to the model diversity and what we as SA Top Model believe in.”
