The South African Weather Service (Saws) has released its latest weather forecast for Sunday, 11 May 2025.
The weather service predicts a cold front through the southern parts of the country. This will result in isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms in the south west regions of South Africa.
The forecaster issued a yellow level 4 warning for damaging waves leading to difficulty in navigation at sea for small vessels and personal watercraft is expected between Saldanha Bay and Plettenberg
Additionally, a yellow level 2 warning, damaging winds and waves resulting in difficulty in navigation and small vessels taking on water and capsizing within a locality, are expected along the coast between Plettenberg Bay and Richards Bay
Here’s what to expect in your province on Sunday, 11 May
Gauteng:
Residents of Gauteng can expect fine and cool weather, but warm weather in the north.
The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “very high”.
Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.
Mpumalanga:
Fine and cool to warm, becoming cloudy in the east with evening drizzle along the Lowveld.
Limpopo:
Morning fog patches over the Western Bushveld, otherwise fine and warm becoming cloudy in the Lowveld by the evening.
North West:
Fine and cool to warm weather awaits North West residents.
Free State:
Residents of the Free State will experience fine and cold to cool conditions.
Northern Cape:
Fine and cold to cool. The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly.
Western Cape:
Partly cloudy and cool to cold with early morning showers along the south coast and adjacent interior.
The wind along the coast will be strong westerly along the south coast in the morning, otherwise moderate westerly to south-westerly but south to south-easterly along the west coast.
The expected UVB sunburn index: Moderate
Eastern Cape (western half):
Partly cloudy with isolated showers along the coast and adjacent interior in the morning.
The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south westerly, moderating towards the evening.
Eastern Cape (eastern half):
It is partly cloudy and cold but very cold in places in the north, with isolated showers along the sunshine coast. In the morning, the wind along the coast will be fresh to strong southwesterly, otherwise moderate to fresh south westerly.
KwaZulu-Natal:
Partly cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain in the east. It will become cloudy in the evening.
The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south westerly to southerly.
