Investigation continues after Pretoria girl’s body found on school rugby field
It remains unclear how the girl gained entry to the school grounds while it is closed for the holiday.
There are no new developments after the death of 16-year-old Mia Kühn, whose body was found on Hoërskool Garsfontein’s rugby field in Gauteng on Tuesday morning.
Kühn was a Grade 10 learner at the school.
On Tuesday, while visiting the school, Gauteng MEC for Education Matome Chiloane revealed that Kühn did not die of natural causes.
Chiloane, however, did not want to engage more on the merits of the inquest case as the matter was still being investigated by the police.
“I don’t want to go too heavily into the case because I don’t want to jeopardise the police investigations.
“As a department, we will assist the family, provide them with the necessary support, and also get learners learning again,” the MEC said.
Kühn’s grandfather, Jeremiah, told Pretoria Rekord that his granddaughter went missing from their house around midnight on Monday.

The following morning, the family reported her missing to the police.
At this time, details of how Kühn might have gained entry to the school remain a mystery that both police and school security are trying to resolve.

Chiloane told the media that his department would also investigate how the body ended up on school premises as schools are closed for the holidays.

The MEC had promised to visit the Kühn family to offer words of condolence; however, departmental spokesperson Steve Mabona told the newspaper that the visit had been delayed.
“We have decided to give them space to grieve,” Mabona said.
Attempts to get comment from the school were unsuccessful, as they were given orders not to issue a statement until a full-blown investigation had been concluded.
Gautgeng police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo could not be reached for comment.
