Sanprè Academy Grade Nine pupil Shristi Ashmaya has funnelled a lifelong love of storytelling into a published book of her own.

The 15-year-old launched The Girl in the Mirror earlier this month after drawing inspiration from Japanese cinema for the book’s tone. Shristi says the central story explores sorrow and the bravery required to confront hard truths.

“With The Girl in the Mirror, I hope readers find the courage to face their own reflections – metaphorically and literally,” she said.

“When you don’t know who to talk to, I find it’s best to write. A lot of my feelings get put into my books, which really makes it even more special to me.”

Outside of writing, Shristi enjoys movies and hopes her creative journey will one day extend into other media. She thanked her family, teachers and friends for their encouragement, as well as the Micro Mega publishing team for helping bring her book to life.
