Supple sirens take to the water to save lifes
The proceeds went towards paying off the Ballito Life Saving Club’s new jetski.
Some of Ballito’s health conscious gathered early last Wednesday morning at La Mercy lagoon for something a little different.
TashB Pilates took to the water on stand up paddle boards (SUPs) for a pilates session that called for incredible balance and core strength.
The sessions were punctuated by splashes and giggles as somebody lost their balance every now and then, but was characterised for the most part by graceful pilates poses.
Pilates instructor Tash Barnard guided the class through the watery routine.
“It is great,” she said enthusiastically, “everyone should try it”.
All proceeds from the special session went towards paying off the Ballito Life Saving Club’s new jetski.
“Every little bit helps,” said club member, Quentin Power.
“We would like to encourage the (lifesaving) kids to get involved with Tash’s pilates classes, that core strength will really help,” he said.
The sessions was a great success as the 30 plus smiling faces bore witness to afterwards. One of these faces belonged to renowned American pilates instructor, Sam Wood, who is in town in between teaching pilates at studios in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
“I really enjoyed it,” said Wood, “I’ve been on an SUP before but I have never tried pilates on one.”
The SUP was evidently no hindrance to Wood, as she showed off by doing a headstand on one!
