Orphan Fund golf day sees golfers raise R49 000

The Fund distributes monies raised to 13 charities on the North Coast which look after vulnerable and orphaned children, reaching about 1000 children each year.

Despite the high temperatures, 100 golfers took over the Umhlali Country Club for the first North Coast Courier Orphan Fund golf day last Friday.

Jurie van der Westhuizen, Joe Carter, Johan van Rensburg and Noel Firch were the winners with 91 points, runners up were Tyron Abrosie, Mike Zietsman, Chris Rawlings and Richard Johnston and Iris Morhall, Glenda Hickman, Paddi Reich and Natasha Pritchard scooped third place.

Fundraising co-ordinator Jane Armstrong thanked all the players, sponsors and those who played a role in ensuring the event was a success.

“We had a super turn out, even with South Africa playing rugby that day. The Orphan Fund raised close to R7000 from raffle sales, Mulligan sales brought in R3000, and the chipping game run by EasySkips and the JehCon Group Building Contractors on the 8th hole generated R1800.
