WATCH: Lwandle Muso, from orphan to Afro Pop artist
Lwandle Muso's single track Ntokazi Enhle (Beautiful Lady) was released in July and is building great momentum locally.
All you need is love, and an education, says Afro Pop artist Mbongiseni Magagula (aka Lwandle Muso), whose song Ntokazi Enhle (Beautiful Lady) is getting him noticed on the local music scene.
Growing up in an orphanage inspired Muso to spread the message about the importance of love through his music.
Muso spent his childhood years at Siphesihle Orphanage Shelter in Melville township, outside KwaDukuza town. The orphanage has since closed.
“I stayed there after my granny and mother passed away when I was still a kid.
“I remember that as much as we had people who showed love and support, the love of a parent was missing and I would use music to fill that gap.
“I would not have survived without my music.
“Now that I am a musician, I feel that I must keep love as one of the important subjects of my music,” says Muso
After matriculating at Stanger South Secondary School in 2004, he worked at Checkers to save for tertiary education.
Save as he might he realised it was an uphill battle that he was not winning, which was when The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund saw his potential and stepped in to support him.
He completed a Bachelor of Arts in Music at the University of KwaZulu Natal and then went on to do a postgraduate diploma in information studies.
Muso released his first Afro Pop album under the KZN Music House in 2016 and after it was closed down, he got himself a job at UKZN as an information specialist/ music librarian.
“It helped me to have education as a backup plan for my music because, after my first album, things did not go well.
“But with education on my side, I was able to get a job and I have now started my own company called African Vico Entertainment.”
His single track Ntokazi Enhle (Beautiful Lady) was released in July and is building great momentum locally.
The song has been aired on major radio stations, including Metro and Ukhozi FM.
“For Beautiful Lady, I worked with award-winning artist Nduduzo Makhathini and featured upcoming artist Wonda the Brave.
“I am currently working on my second album.”
