Umhlali Country Club gives back

While 35 staff members were given blankets bought from a local supplier, the Ellen Gumede School in Kranskop also benefitted from the support programme.

While golf, tennis, bowls and squash may be the name of the game at Umhlali Country Club, so too is corporate social responsibility.

The club has played a unifying role in the region for 60 years and this year’s campaign of distributing food parcels and blankets went a long way to raising spirits in these difficult times.

UCC membership and marketing administrator, Melissa Erasmus says the club workforce and surrounding communities were beneficiaries of this year’s corporate social responsibility campaign.

While 35 staff members were given blankets bought from a local supplier, the Ellen Gumede School in Kranskop also benefitted from the support programme.

“Ellen Gumede School Grade R pupils were donated 120 jerseys,” said Erasmus.

Umhlali Country Club has looked out for the school since 2016 and often celebrates Arbor Day with the school.

This year the club also gave the school more than 2 500 seedlings for their vegetable garden, which goes on to feed the children daily.

These seedlings included cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, brinjals, tomatoes, spinach, kale and even chilli seedlings.

Each child was also given seedlings to take home to plant and make their own vegetable gardens.

For Umhlali Country Club, corporate social responsibility extends to looking out for the families of those who need it most, ensuring they always have something healthy to eat.

Umhlali Country Club is located at 1 Compensation Road, Ballito and can be contacted at 032 947 1181.
