Growing stronger together at Sasol Salt Rock
Having become entrenched into the hearts and minds of the Salt Rock community, the fuel station's success is owed to the professional level of service it provides to its customers, believes manager Praveena Thulkanum.
Salt Rock’s Sasol fuel station has always been a popular pitstop where many fond memories have accumulated since it opened its doors 10 years ago.
Having become entrenched into the hearts and minds of the Salt Rock community, the fuel station’s success is owed to the professional level of service it provides to its customers, believes manager Praveena Thulkanum.
Living by the “customer is king” motto, Sasol Salt Rock staff have a proven track record of compassionate interaction with their clients.
“We share a lot with our customers. We’ve laughed and cried together and many come by just to have a chat with us,” said Praveena.

Home to the largest bunny chow (10 metres) ever made, and the best bunny on the North Coast, this fuel station has a sense of community.
Ever since it opened its doors, it has involved itself with worthy projects, such as addressing needs at Sizani Combined School in Salt Rock, also treating the school’s children to an annual lunch.
The fuel station also has a community vegetable garden and has even had a baby delivered in its forecourt!
Scooping up awards is par for the course for Salt Rock Sasol, with the fuel station voted Best Newcomer to the Sasol Group in 2014 and claiming the regional award for the best Sasol outlet in 2016.
It’s famous bunny chow has also featured in Erica Platter’s recipe book, Durban Curry Up2Date.

Erica is a Ballito resident and former newspaper and magazine journalist and editor turned chef extraordinaire.
Praveena attributes the station’s continued success and growth to the support it receives from the community, clearly illustrated during last year’s violent unrest.
“It was amazing to see how the community stood together and put their differences aside,” said Praveena, noting they stood guard and protected her business 24/7 during that time.
With the hope of building more special memories, the fuel station has recently opened two new restaurants, Steers and Fishaways.
Praveena also extended special thanks to her original 9 committed staff members who have been with her from the start – Andile Ngema, Sthembiso Ngubane, Promise Khuzwayo, Thabethe Sthembiso, Vera Zulu, Mvuselelo Mthembu, Tsengu Nkosi, Isabelle Ndlela and Moses Mlambo.
