Returning plant fair promises botanical education in Durban
Some of the province's leading nurseries and plant experts will be part of the programme.
Durban’s longest-running plant fair returns to the Durban Botanic Gardens this weekend, offering informative talks and well-priced plants for sale.
Hosted by the KZN Coastal branch of the Botanical Society of South Africa, the plant fair will be held from 9am to 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
Entry and secure parking are free.
Some of the province’s leading nurseries will be there, offering plants at competitive prices in keeping with this year’s theme, ‘Know, grow, protect and enjoy South Africa’s indigenous plants’.
Proceeds from nursery sales support the Botanical Society’s plant conservation projects in KwaZulu-Natal.
Four experts will also speak on a range of topics at the Durban Botanic Gardens Visitors’ Centre Hall.
On Saturday, Lindsay Gray will present ‘Basic principles of garden design’ from 10am, followed by Dr Elsa Pooley and Jane Troughton presenting ‘The well-loved garden: pruning, propagating and renewal’ from midday.
On Sunday, Jenny Dean will open with a talk on ‘Creating a garden for wildlife’ at 10am.
The Botanical Society AGM will be held from 12.30pm, after which Muhammad Adamjee will close the proceedings with ‘Life after fire – the story behind SA’s gold win at the Chelsea Flower Show 2026’.
