Get your jab and thrive in flu season

Most major medical aids will pay for your clinic visit and your flu vaccine.

It’s flu vaccine time again. I would encourage everyone who is eligible to get a flu vaccine this year.

We have had very low incidents of flu over the past few years owing to masks and social distancing but with Covid-19 restrictions being lifted, we can anticipate a busy flu season this year.

We have already seen a few cases at Thrive and flu season generally starts around March and April.

Babies and children from 6 months to 9-years-old who have never had a flu vaccine require 2 vaccines 4 weeks apart. Children over 9 years of age and adults require one vaccine regardless of vaccination status.

The flu vaccine is also highly recommended during pregnancy and is quite safe.

There is also no need to wait 2 weeks after having a Covid-19 vaccine, the flu and Covid vaccines can be done on the same day.

The only contraindication for a flu vaccine is an egg allergy or a previous adverse reaction to the vaccine.

We have stock of the 4-strain flu vaccine at all 3 of our Thrive stores, and for your convenience you can either book a clinic appointment on our website at www.wethrive.co.za or simply pop into the clinic during our clinic hours.
