Early detection is key to arrest breast cancer

In view of the alarming statistics, For Women 3D Mammography Centre Ballito's chief mammographer, Bianca Dreyer, wants to impress on women the importance of not neglecting annual mammograms.

Not only is cancer a leading cause of death worldwide, the most common is breast cancer.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) reported 2.26 million breast cancer cases in 2020, causing 685 000 global deaths.

The WHO highlighted late diagnosis and lack of access to treatment as causes for concern.

In view of these alarming statistics, For Women 3D Mammography Centre Ballito’s chief mammographer, Bianca Dreyer wants to impress on women the importance of not neglecting annual mammograms.

“Early detection is key for successful treatment. Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death in women. Women are at an increased risk of developing breast cancer after the age of 40,” she warned, not only does the 3D mammography studies show breast cancer, but it can also detect other abnormalities.

“This is a specialised X-ray scan procedure, using state-of-the-art 3D Tomosynthesis technology. It produces images in a three-dimensional view.”

Dreyer, who has been heading the centre since it opened last June, said she’s passionate about women’s health. “We really do work with clients’ utmost care in mind.”

Mammograms are not the only service on offer at the centre though. Bone densitometry, ultrasounds, digital stereotactic biopsy and general X-rays are also performed.

“The centre further offers a convenient out-of-hospital environment for all one’s 3D Mammography screening and diagnostic imaging.”

The centre can be found at Shop 657A, Ballito Junction Mall. Trading times are Mondays – Fridays from 8am to 5pm, and Saturdays between 8am-1pm.
