Curro Salt Rock’s unique robotics curriculum

Building the innovators and leaders of tomorrow

Curro Salt Rock has been at the forefront of STEM education, offering an exceptional robotics and coding curriculum starting at Grade R for the past six years. Students as young as four or five years old are also introduced to the fundamentals of robotics. As the digital revolution continues to reshape our world, the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education has never been more evident. Curro Salt Rock’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators was recognised when the school hosted the prestigious World Robot Olympiad (WRO) regional competition in August.

The event saw primary and high school teams from across the province competing in two challenging categories. With 11 teams from various schools vying for a coveted spot in the national finals, Curro Salt Rock’s reputation as a leader in STEM education was on full display. This year’s competition marked the 8th regional event hosted by Curro Salt Rock, and it has grown significantly in size and stature over the years.

Robotics takes pupils on a journey of innovation and problem-solving.

Ingrid Hoffman, the Robotics Curriculum Champion at Curro Salt Rock and WRO judge with international experience, shares her perspective: “Our robotics programme goes beyond mere instruction; it’s a journey of innovation and problem-solving. The greatest reward is witnessing our learners transform into critical thinkers and future leaders.”

Curro Salt Rock proudly fielded six teams on the first day, and five on the second day, with one three of the teams achieving an outstanding 1st place in their category.

The Explorer Prime team now ranks 1st in the country. Additionally, the school’s teams have received four national invitations in four different categories, a testament to their exceptional talent and dedication.

Curro Salt Rock continues to inspire and empower its students, ensuring they are well-equipped to thrive in the digital age.
