Surgical skill and patient care with Dr Pierry K Kabongo

Dr Kabongo operates rooms in both Ballito and KwaDukuza.

Dr Pierry K Kabongo has been one of the North Coast’s most trusted surgeons for almost 20 years, operating in both Ballito and KwaDukuza and joining the private sector in 2022.

A surgical expert with a special interest in gastroenterology, Dr Kabongo was voted Best General Surgeon in The North Coast Courier Best of Ballito Readers’ Choice Awards 2025.

Originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he graduated in medicine in 2003, Dr Kabongo obtained his fellowship of the college of surgeons of South Africa and earned his master’s degree in surgery at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2021. He has been in the Ballito area since 2007.

Practising surgery was a lifelong ambition.

“It was a passion since childhood and I never thought about doing anything else,” said Dr Kabongo.

“I believe in evidence-based medicine and spend a lot of time working with patients to understand their history in order to tailor treatment. That is becoming less common in private practice.”

Dr Kabongo’s areas of expertise include gastroenterology and biliary surgery for conditions affecting the digestive system and gallbladder, as well as minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, which can reduce recovery time and discomfort. He performs gastroscopies and colonoscopies and manages hernias, breast conditions, thyroid and other endocrine disorders, and a range of skin and soft tissue concerns, such as cysts and abscesses.

Dr Kabongo consults at Suite 11, Netcare Alberlito Hospital and Suite 1B, KwaDukuza Private Hospital. You can reach the Ballito offices at 032 946 6953 and the KwaDukuza offices at 032 815 3013.
