
The following crimes were attended to by Umhlali SAPS over the weekend:
A house was burgled on Madeleine Drive in Ballito on Saturday night. Two laptops, a cellphone and other items were stolen valued at R63 000.
At around midnight on Saturday, burglars broke into a house on School Road in Shakaskraal. R19 000 worth of goods were stolen.
A man was assaulted in Nkobongo on Saturday after he confronted another man following an altercation between the suspect and his friend. He was beaten with a blunt object.
Groceries and shoes were stolen out of a woman’s house near Shavin’s Store in Etete around midday on Saturday.
A policeman searched a suspicious looking man in Shakaskraal and found six packets of cocaine on him. He was arrested and taken to the Umhlali station.
A white Hilux bakkie was stolen on Osborne Drive in Salt Rock on Friday night. The owner said he had parked the vehicle and locked it. When he went outside in the morning it was gone.
Two men were arrested for buying goods with a stolen credit card at the Ballito Lifestyle Centre on Friday afternoon.
Police found a man in his fifties who had been stabbed behind the Knockout store in Etete late on Friday evening. The man was rushed to Stanger hospital.
A television and an amplifier were stolen from a house in Shakashead while the owner was at work on Thursday.
R2000 worth of telephone cables were stolen near Esenembe on Thursday.
Two rape cases were reported during the weekend: On Wednesday, a woman was walking home near Rietvalley farm when she was approached by a man. He demanded her cellphone and wallet, threatening her with a knife. She was not carrying anything and he forced her into the nearby cane field and raped her.
A woman was raped in her home in Driefontein on Friday after a party. She had been drinking and went home because she was feeling dizzy. She woke up to find a man she knew leaving the house after raping her.
Police arrested 31 people for drinking in public, four for possession of dagga, five for selling liquor without a license, four for disturbing the peace, one for road traffic violations, four for possession of dangerous weapons and one for possession of cocaine.
