The following crimes were attended to by Umhlali SAPS between Sunday, October 21 and Thursday, October 17:
A woman was robbed at her home in Madeleine Drive at around 3am on Sunday morning. A cellphone, jewellery, a laptop and other items were stolen from the house.
A 16-year-old girl was raped at the Shakashead sports field while she walking to her friend’s house on Saturday. A man grabbed her and forced her to the field. After he had raped her, he took her to his house and made her bath in order to remove the evidence.
A man was stabbed at Umgetane farm in Esenembe on Saturday by someone who owed him money.
While walking home early on Saturday morning, a woman was robbed by three men outside a tavern in Shakaskraal.
A man was robbed on the Nkobongo bridge on Friday afternoon after drawing money at a nearby ATM. He saw a man he knew watching him and was followed by the man with a group of friends.
Four men broke into a house in Shayamoya while the family was inside on Friday evening. They made off with cellphones, cash and cards to the value of R8000.
A white VW golf was stolen on the Etete main road between Friday and Saturday. The owner had parked the vehicle there because of the heavy rains.
A house was broken into on Ashley Road in Ballito on Friday night. The tenants, who were on holiday, claimed to have locked the house and woke up to find their valuable stolen along with other household items.
A Toyota Hilux was stolen outside La Pirogue in Ballito on Thursday.
A fraud case was reported on the weekend. A 95-year-old woman had paid a man for tree felling. The man then allegedly told her that he had been fined R20 000 for felling indigenous trees. She then refunded him the money. He did this several times and the elderly woman ended up paying him a total of R95 000 before her son realised and reported the case to the authorities. The municipality had not issued any fines for illegal tree felling.
Umhlali SAPS arrested four people for possession of marijuana, nine for drinking in public, three for disturbing the peace, two for selling liquor without a license, two for road traffic violations and one person was arrested for failing to comply with a lawful instruction.
