The weekend crime round up.

Umhlali SAPS attended to the following crimes last weekend, Friday December 6 to Monday December 8:

  • Telkom’s exchange in Esenembe was broken into on Monday morning. A car battery, 50 litres of diesel and Telkom cables were stolen, valued at R4250.
  • Burglars broke into a house on Llewellyn Road in Sheffield while the residents were having dinner downstairs on Sunday evening. Laptops and other items were stolen after they broke in through the upstairs window.
  • A man is believed to have been sexually assaulted on Sunday evening. After drinking some wine at Thompson’s Bay beach at around midday, he woke up at Simbithi Drive around 7pm and discovered evidence of abuse. The victim has no memory of what happened.
  • A woman was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend on Sunday in Shakaskraal. This on the same day as getting a restraining order against him for a previous assault.
  • Five men assaulted a man in his home in Shakashead at around midnight on Sunday. He was hit with a hammer and stabbed. Police have arrested the suspects.
  • Police found a man dead on the R102 near Umhlali SAPS early on Saturday morning. A case of culpable homicide has been opened.
  • A group of men assaulted a bouncer at Crush Night Club at around 3am on Saturday morning.
  • A man was stabbed after five men entered a shop on Noordsburg Road on Friday. They made off with cigarettes, airtime, vouchers and cash valued at R6330.
  • A tuckshop in Shayamoya was broken into on Friday. Two house break-ins were also reported in the area.

Umhlali SAPS arrested 28 people for drinking in public, 15 for drinking and driving, three for selling liquor without a license, one for reckless and negligent driving, one for dealing drugs, one for possession of mandrax, one for rape, one for fraud and one person was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle.
