Cocaine bust at King Shaka International

Woman hides drugs in takkie soles.

A 28-year-old woman was arrested for drug possession at the King Shaka International Airport yesterday.

Members of the SAPS King Shaka International Airport and customs officials were jointly profiling passengers aboard an international flight from Dubai.

While profiling passenger’s passports, they came across a woman who was flying from Brazil to South Africa via Dubai.

KZN SAPS captain Thulani Zwane said the woman and her luggage were searched.

The woman was apparently taking the drugs to Durban.

“When members searched her shoes they discovered her inner soles were removable and covered with black duct tape. Police cut the tape and found powdered cocaine weighing 0.94 kilogram with a street value of R 282 000.”

Preliminary investigations indicate the drugs were meant to be delivered to a 41-year-old man, who was subsequently arrested at a hotel in Durban.

The man and woman appeared in the Verulam Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

“I am pleased with the successes thus far but am aware that we still have a long way to go. Our members are motivated and positive and are doing their utmost to cripple the drug trade in the province. If we continue at this rate, we can attain our goal of a drug free society”, said provincial police commissioner lieutenant general Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
