Mokoena, Desperado to remain in custody

Two high-profile cases on court roll

Two cases of extreme public interest were on the KwaDukuza magistrate’s court roll this morning.

Xolani Richard Mfeka, better known as ‘Desperado’ and KwaDukuza SAPS lieutenant Tholumuzi Mokoena were both in the dock.

Singing Etete community members lined King Shaka Street, pleading with the court not to release Mfeka on bail.

Mfeka, believed to be one of KwaDukuza’s most feared rapists, is facing two counts of rape and one robbery charge.

He was sent back to the Umhlali SAPS holding cells and will re-appear on March 6.

The crowd cheered loudly when the police convoy carrying Desperado left the court.

Mokoena, accused of arranging an ambush that claimed the lives of his colleagues constables Thobani Xulu and S’busiso Mthethwa, made his first appearance with legal representation.

The case was postponed until March 12 when Mokoena is expected to apply for bail.
