An unlicensed firearm leads to man’s arrest

A man is arrested for being in possession of an licensed firearm and ammunition in Emona.

Tongaat crime prevention members arrested a 20-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition last week.
Responding to a tip-off, the members acted speedily to arrest the man in Emona.
Communications officer, warrant officer Manisha Mahraj Marie said the arrest was important because police know many criminals have unlicensed firearms but it is difficult to catch them.
“People in the community also know but are far too scared to speak out,” she said.
