Child hanged in grim family murder in Ndwedwe

The murder of two families in separate incidents in KZN last week could be connected.

A gruesome scene met  Ndwedwe police when they investigated a report of murder in the Mzungu area, Ndwedwe on Friday, August 19 at about 10pm.

Three people had been shot dead while a fourth was found hanged by a rope from a pole.

“The three deceased family members were identified as Thandokwakhe Bhengu (35) and her two children Lindelani Bhengu (16) and Lungisani Bhengu (8),” said SAPS’s Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.

“Thandokwakhe  Bhengu and Lindelani Bhengu were fatally shot while the body of Lungisani was hanging from a pole.”

Three counts of murder were opened at Ndwedwe police station.

The motive for this tragedy is still unknown.

Police have appealed to the public to come forward with any information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the murderers.

It is believed that the murders could be linked to the murder of another family in KZN the day prior.

“This killing follows an incident where three family members were killed in Melmoth last week Thursday,” said Zwane.

Four people were arrested and charged with Thursday’s murders.

They appeared in the Melmoth Magistrate’s Court today.
