Airport police allegedly busted for stealing

Unconfirmed reports suggest that R6 million in cash was stolen from a passenger

Two police officers from King Shaka International Airport appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court facing charges of theft on Tuesday.

According to provincial SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane they were released on R5 000 bail and the case was remanded until March 17 for further investigation.

“It is alleged that during December 2016 the two officers searched a passenger who was about to board a flight from Durban to Cape Town.

“When the man arrived in Cape Town he noticed that an undisclosed amount of cash which was in his luggage was missing.

“A case of theft was than opened at King Shaka International Airport for further investigation,” said Zwane.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the passenger was travelling with R6 million in cash, though it is unclear what the passenger was doing with so much cash.

The two police officers were arrested by the KZN Provincial Task Team after detectives obtained a warrant for their arrest.

Both cops were stationed at King Shaka International Airport as detectives.
