UPDATE: Search for hijacked baby called off

Sibongile Mbambo, the mother of the baby taken in a hijacking yesterday has made a desperate appeal to the two men who hijacked her in central Durban to return her child

The search for the one-month-old baby, who was abducted in a hijacking in the centre of Durban yesterday, has reportedly been called off.
This decision was announced by SAPS at the Durban central police station earlier today.
The Berea Mail reported that the baby’s mother has pleaded with the hijackers to return her child in an interview with East Coast Radio Newswatch yesterday.
The mother said she was still with the police and had not been home since the hijacking.
Police have released a photograph of the child and urged the public to keep a lookout.
According to police, Sibongile and her eight year-old daughter were forced out of their white Toyota Yaris by two armed men who then sped off with the infant inside the car.
The car was later found by police and security officers abandoned in Moodie Crescent, Montclair.
The baby was missing as well as the child’s car seat, pram and other baby items.
The police reportedly searched the dense bush area near where the car was last night, but there was no trace of the baby.
Marshall Security urged the public not to conduct their own searches, as the people involved in the hijacking are reportedly armed and dangerous.
Should you have any information about the missing baby, contact SAPS on 10111.
