Local SAPS and Tongaat crime prevention members on Monday received information about a North Coast taxi driver in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
It was alleged that he was a driver covering the Ndwedwe area to Tongaat.
They found the taxi at a petrol station in Maidstone, but when the driver noticed SAPS, he walked onto the R102.
He was soon caught by Sgt Govender and was found carrying a 9mm vector firearm, along with one 9mm live round.
The 27-year-old man is also reportedly wanted for murder, attempted murder and grievous bodily harm in Nsuze and appeared in court on Tuesday, March 28.
He was remanded to Tongaat police cells.
The station commander colonel Santha Moodley commended all the members for their excellent work and dedication.
