
• A car was hijacked on Friday in La Mercy, Tongaat. The complainant was driving on South Beach Road at around 7pm when he heard a gunshot. He stopped to investigate and was approached by two armed men who asked the driver to get out of the car before they took the car keys and fled. An iPhone 6 and R1 000 was in the car.
• On Friday midday, a clothing shop was robbed in Tongaat CBD. The shop assistants were told to move aside and be quiet while the robbers stole an unknown amount of clothing and loaded it into a bin bag.
• Umhlali SAPS reported that two arrests were made on Friday, one for shoplifting and the other for theft.
• A truck was hijacked in Tongaat central at 7.30pm on Saturday. The driver was approached by two men armed with knives. The robbers got into the truck and demanded the driver go to Hambanati, where the driver escaped. The truck was later recovered by Tongaat SAPS in Hambanati. No arrests have been made.
• Jewelry worth R750 000 was stolen from a house in Avondale, Ballito on Saturday night. It is unknown how the three armed men got into the house.
• Umhlali SAPS made five arrests on Sunday for drunken driving, possession of an unlicensed firearm, attempted murder, rape and damage to property.
