Three people were stabbed after a fight broke out at the Clarke Bay tidal pool in Ballito over the weekend.
KwaDukuza lifeguard supervisor Bongani Xulu told The Courier that between 1pm and 2pm on Saturday a family visiting the tidal pool got into an altercation with a man from Shaka’s Head.
“They started arguing and soon it escalated,” said Xulu.
“The guy from Shaka’s Head was accompanied by several friends and when the fight started they pulled out knives and it turned into the two groups all having a go at each other.”
UIP security guards were at the tidal pool and alerted the SAPS.
Meanwhile lifeguards were treating the three stab wound patients.
“When I got there it was pretty bad, one of the guys had been stabbed in the stomach and back and was in a serious condition.”
Paramedics transported them to Stanger Hospital.
The men responsible for the stabbings apparently fled the beach but were followed by UIP personnel, who directed police to later arrest the men at the Shell garage.
“Things like this are very scary,” Xulu said.
“You want to help people but you are not armed – and when men are waving knives around and stabbing people you have to keep your distance until it is safe.”
