Cars stolen from Ballito Junction

Police urge the public to be wary of remote jamming

A silver Mercedes Benz was stolen from the covered paid parking at the Ballito Junction last night.

“This is the second car stolen from the Junction in the last seven days with an additional two incidents of cars being broken into,” said Ballito Neighbourhood Watch chairman Gary Frances.

“What we are concerned about is that this crime will start moving into the residential areas.

“If criminals cruise the mall’s parking lot and do not see any easy targets, it is a short leap for them to decide to drive through the residential areas on the prowl for opportunities.”

Junction spokesperson Kathryn Payton said they had taken note of this concerning event and were taking the appropriate steps to combat crime of this nature.

“We are constantly assessing and adjusting our security procedures to make sure that vehicles are safe in our parking lots.”

The stolen car was a dark silver Mercedes ML63 AMG with the registration CA282094.

Another car was stolen from the Junction last week and was recovered the same day.

Umhlali SAPS spokesperson Vinny Pillay warned people to be extra careful when leaving their vehicles.

“We urge people to make sure their cars are locked – don’t fall victim to remote jamming – and never to leave valuables inside parked cars.”
