UPDATE: Police force protesters off Doringkop Road after truck torched

Protesters reportedly turned their anger on the truck when the large vehicle was unable to turn around in time to avoid them

Public Order police were called in to restore order on the Doringkop Road (P110) near Bulwer Farm after a mob set a timber truck alight and closed the road this morning.

The road is now open as police continue to monitor the area.

According to a police officer the driver of the truck tried to make a u-turn after noticing the large group of protesters on the road, however he was unable to turn around and before he knew it, protesters opened the door and removed the key.

“The driver managed to run away unharmed.

“We were also told that a security guard’s firearm and cell phones were taken by the protesters,” said the officer.

The protesters are reportedly unhappy with Ward 1 councillor Dumsani Ndimande who is being accused of corrupting the ongoing housing project and demand that he steps down.

Protest action reportedly began yesterday evening when protesters stoned a truck carrying local produce.
