Newborn baby dumped in Shaka’s Head pit latrine

The mother has been arrested for concealment of birth

The body of a newborn baby was recovered from a pit latrine in Shaka’s Head this morning.

“The baby, already deceased, was found in a plastic bag inside the toilet,” said IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst.

Umhlali SAPS spokesperson Vinny Pillay said the child’s mother (20) was arrested at the Ballito Clinic for concealment of birth.

“The baby appears to be premature. A forensic report will reveal whether the child was stillborn or exactly what was the cause of death,” said Pillay.
