Security at the Ballito Junction has once again been put in the spotlight after two cars were broken into and one was allegedly vandalised on Thursday night.
Returning to his car on the top parking level at 7pm, Ballito resident Talton Cooke was horrified to find his car window smashed and his belongings taken.
“I called security, who where no where to be seen, and they were of no assistance,” said Cooke.
“I then waited an hour and a half in the cold before threatening to go home and visit the police station in the morning.”

Cooke was then taken down to the control room.
“I waited almost two hours for something to happen.”
Talton took to social media on Friday to voice his anger, claiming he was one of three people who had their cars broken into on Thursday evening.
Ballito Junction spokesperson Kathryn Payton confirmed that a Toyota Fortuner was also broken into at around 6pm.
“The security guard patrolling the level 2 car park noticed that the glass to a customer’s Fortuner vehicle was smashed. He reported this to the control room and was posted at the vehicle until the customer returned to her vehicle. It was alleged that a laptop was stolen,” said Payton.
“CCTV footage was reviewed and a white Polo was observed stopping adjacent to the parked Fortuner, where one man got out of the Polo looking into the back window of the Fortuner. He then returned to the Polo, which then parked approximately five bays away.
“Once again a man exited the white Polo and moved to the other side of the Fortuner (out of view), proceeded to smash the window and allegedly removed a laptop. The Polo then exited the building.”
In this time Cooke’s vehicle was broken into, and a BMW M3 was allegedly vandalised.
“The BMW emblem and emblem of the mag wheels were stolen, however it is not possible to confirm that this took place on site.”
Luckily for Cooke, he received a call on Thursday morning from a friend who works in Queen Nandi Drive, who had found his ID book and a few of his belongings, together with a number of items such as keys and passports belonging to other possible victims, on the side of the highway.
“I understand that these things happen and I have accepted that but I am hugely disappointed that my belongings where stolen.
“This is unacceptable for a mall parking lot, and there have been so many incidents.”
