Maphumulo woman strangles baby, dumps body in pit toilet

The 21-year-old apparently told her family that the child was missing and the police were contacted

A 21-year-old Maphumulo woman faces charges of murder after she allegedly strangled her 11-month old baby and disposed of his body in a pit toilet.

The incident took place on September 25 at Ntombiyehlulunina, after the woman is believed to have fought with her boyfriend.

The 21-year-old apparently told her family that the child was missing and the police were contacted.

After being questioned by Maphumulo SAPS, the woman admitted to killing her baby and was immediately arrested.

Acting provincial commissioner major general Bheki Langa said, “It is outrageous to hear that the mother is capable of killing her own child. We hope that justice will be served and she will get a harsher sentence.”

Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said the case was postponed from last Friday to Tuesday, October 3.
