The police have cautioned the public against withdrawing large amounts of cash from public ATMs

A man was robbed at gunpoint at The Circle in Ballito this afternoon after withdrawing money from  a public ATM.
According to IPSS Electronics and Security, the victim withdrew cash from an ATM at the Shell garage at about 3.30pm before driving across to The Circle shopping centre, where he was held at gunpoint.

“Two men driving a sliver Mercedes approached the man and one of them pulled out a firearm from under his shirt.
“They said they knew he had money on him.

“Out of fear, the victim handed over the cash and fled.”

Umhlali SAPS spokesperson Vinny Pillay said people should be careful about drawing large amounts of money in a public setting, especially with the festive season approaching.

“The best advice that can be given when you are held up at gunpoint is to stay calm and be cooperative.”
