Taxi violence in Sheffield

Nhlanhla Laphelo was walking home to Sheffield Manor along the Flag Animal Farm road when unknown assailants attacked.

The early morning quiet of Sheffield was broken by gunshots today (Tuesday) in what appears to have been a drive-by style shooting.

Shortly after 8am Dolphin Coast Taxi Association member Nhlanhla Laphelo was walking home to Sheffield Manor along the Flag Animal Farm road when unknown assailants attacked.

According to IPSS Electronic Security, the men had pulled up in a white Audi before opening fire on Laphelo, who returned fire.

Laphelo avoided any injury from his harrowing experience.

It is unknown whether he managed to hit any of his attackers in the Audi.

Dolphin Coast Taxi Association spokesperson, Sunshine Mthiyane said they currently don’t know if the incident was related to taxi violence or if it was his personal enemies.

Umhlali SAPS spokesperson captain Vinny Pillay told the Courier that the Dolphin Coast was relatively quiet in terms of taxi violence and that they expected this to be an isolated case.
